On Saturday, 9 November 2019 Orange Public School is holding their annual Orange Open Gardens event which is a showcase of 8 beautiful local gardens open for viewing. Tickets are on sale now and are also available on the day from the Garden Hub at Orange Public School. We are thrilled to be a part of this wonderful event this year and are looking forward to seeing the gardens ourselves.

It got us to thinking about how hard it must be to maintain such lovely gardens in the current drought conditions, especially if you don’t have a bore to help with the watering.
We’ve put together this list of current water restrictions for Orange and some surrounding towns as the restrictions differ from town to town. The current restrictions are tough but necessary given the current conditions and status of our dwindling water supplies. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for some significant, drought-breaking rainfall soon.
Orange
Level 5 Water Restrictions
Target consumption: 160 L/person/day
Lawns: No watering
Residential Gardens: No sprinklers, micro-sprays or soaker hoses
Buckets, watering cans and drip systems permitted during limited hours: One day a week only = Sunday
(Daylight savings time: 6pm-7pm.)
(Winter and non-Daylight savings time: 3pm-4pm)
One hand-held hose with a trigger nozzle for up to half an hour during that period
Water Features: No
New Turf: No
Swimming Pools: No topping up
Pop-Up Children’s Pools: No
Washing Cars at Home: No
Baths and Showers: Suggested limit of 3 minute shower. One shallow bath per day.
Washing Machines: Full loads only
Evaporative Coolers: Only to be used 7am to midnight daily

Molong
Level 4 Water Restrictions
Target consumption: 200 L/person/day
Watering of Lawns: Not Permitted
Residential Gardens: Watering systems, non-fixed sprinklers, hand held hoses not permitted at any time. Micro sprays, drip systems, soaker hoses, only.
Summer Time between 6pm-8pm. Only on each Wednesday and Sunday.
Winter Time 4pm-6pm. On each Wednesday and Sunday.
Topping up, filling of garden water features: Permitted
Irrigation of new Turf: Not permitted
Washing down walls or paved surfaces: Not permitted
Topping up of private Pools: Only between hours of 7am-9am and between 6pm-8pm every day provided pool covers are used
First fill of private pools: Only with council permission and with water savings elsewhere on property and provided pool covers are used
Washing of cars at Home: Permitted with bucket only on lawn between 9am-12pm any day
Baths, showers: Five minute showers, one bath (per person per day)
Washing of clothes: Full loads only permitted
Use of evaporative coolers: Permitted only 7am-Midnight daily
Inflatable or temporary children’s pools: Permitted

Target consumption: 220 L/person/day
Watering of Lawns: Watering systems, non-fixed sprinklers, handheld hoses not permitted at any time.
Micro sprays, drip systems and soaker hoses only.
Summer Time: 6am-9am and 6pm-9pm every second day as per odds and evens system.
Winter Time: 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm every second day as per odds and evens system.
Residential Gardens: Watering systems, non-fixed sprinklers, handheld hoses not permitted at any time.
Micro sprays, drip systems, soaker hoses, only.
Summer Time: 6am-9am and 6pm-9pm every second day as per odds and evens system.
Winter Time: 7am-10am and 4pm-7pm every second day as per odds and evens system.
Topping up, filling of garden water features: Permitted
Irrigation of new Turf: Permitted for one week after laying after which Level 3 restriction on watering lawns applies.
Washing down walls or paved surfaces: Not permitted
Topping up of private Pools: Only between hours of 7am-9am and between 6pm-8pm every day provided pool covers are used
First fill of private pools: Only with council permission and with water savings elsewhere on property and provided pool covers are used
Washing of cars at Home: Permitted with bucket only on lawn between 9am-12pm any day

Use of evaporative coolers: Permitted
Inflatable or temporary children’s pools: Permitted
